Rite Aid pharmacies are closing. Switch to a different in-network pharmacy of your choice now.
Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy on May 5, 2025, and has been closing locations nationwide. If you use a Rite Aid pharmacy to fill prescriptions, the location may have closed or will be closing soon. We are here to answer questions you may have about these pharmacy closures.
What happens to my prescription(s) that I’ve been filling at Rite Aid?
Rite Aid may have already transferred your prescription(s) to a different pharmacy. If you’re satisfied with the new location, you don’t need to do anything. If your prescription has not yet been transferred or if you do not want to use the pharmacy where Rite Aid sent your prescription, you can choose a different one.
How do I know if Rite Aid transferred (or will transfer) my prescription(s) somewhere else?
For locations that are closing and have transferred (or will transfer) prescriptions, Rite Aid will send a letter to customers of the closing location. Informational signs may also be posted at closing Rite Aid pharmacies.
How do I find a new pharmacy?
There are a few ways you can find a new in-network pharmacy:
- Log in to your Blue Shield of California online account and use the Price Check My Rx tool. This tool shows pharmacies where you can transfer your prescription(s). It can also tell you what you may expect to pay.*
- Use our online pharmacy locator tool to explore retail pharmacies in our network.
- Call Customer Service at the number on your Blue Shield member ID card for help finding a pharmacy convenient for you.
I chose a new pharmacy. How do I transfer my prescription(s) there?
To transfer your prescription(s), call the pharmacy you chose and give them the prescription number from your current medication’s label. The new pharmacy can start the process of getting it transferred.
If your prescription was already transferred and you want to fill it somewhere else, ask your provider to send a new prescription to the in-network pharmacy of your choice.
Can I choose home delivery instead?
Yes, you can choose to have your medications delivered by Amazon Pharmacy at no extra cost.† See our Home delivery pharmacy page for more information about this option. You can also call Amazon Pharmacy’s dedicated, toll-free Blue Shield customer care number, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to find out how to get started.
