Contact us
Now that we have implemented the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding at Blue Shield, beginning October 1, 2015, please contact the appropriate departments at Blue Shield for assistance with operations questions:

  • ICD-10 EDI rejections: Email the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) team at EDI_BSC@blueshieldca.com.

  • ICD-10 Claims Submission or Processing: Call our Provider Customer Service at (800) 541-6652.

We have received requests from several professional providers for recommendations on choosing ICD-10 diagnosis codes for claims. Since it is not appropriate for a health plan to recommend diagnosis codes for a specific claim, our recommendation is to obtain the ICD-10 coding manuals that are endorsed by reputable associations and refer to those manuals to identify correct ICD-10 diagnosis codes for your practice.

As a reminder, Common Terminology Procedural (CPT) codes that are used for payment in accordance with Blue Shield’s fee professional schedule are not related to the ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes.
