Experiencing Long Wait Times?

We understand some members and new enrollees are experiencing delays receiving new ID cards, getting through to our customer service center or accessing portions of our website. We are sorry and thank you for your patience. We take these matters very seriously and have put several measures in place to improve the situation and ensure that members have access to care. This includes expanding our hours and significantly increasing the number of our customer service representatives.

If You've Already Received Your Member ID: 

If you have your Blue Shield member ID card, that’s good news. You’re ready to access information now. Simply go to the Quick Start Guide or log in in directly to the Member Center website.

If You Paid and Haven’t Received Your ID Card: 

If you did not receive your welcome kit within the 10 days, please call (855) 836-9705 if you signed up for your plan through Covered California. If you signed up directly through Blue Shield, please call (888) 256-3650.

If You Need a Prescription and Have Not Received Your ID Card:

You can pay the pharmacy directly and Blue Shield will reimburse you according to your benefits. If you have questions and signed up for your plan through Covered California, please call (855) 836-9705. If you signed up directly through Blue Shield, please call (888) 256-3650.

If You Need to See a Doctor and Have Not Received Your ID Card: 

Please call (855) 836-9705 if you signed up for your plan through Covered California. If you signed up directly through Blue Shield, please call (888) 256-3650. Our customer service team will obtain your information and will contact your physician to verify coverage.

If You Need to Make a Payment and Received an Invoice from Blue Shield of California:  

Please pay at blueshieldca.com/paybsc. You will need to log in, or register to get your Covered California username and password.

    I have paid my premium and not received an ID card yet. What should I do?

    If you did not receive your welcome kit and ID card, please call us at one of the following numbers:

    • If you signed up for your plan through Covered California, call (855) 836-9705.
    • If you signed up directly through Blue Shield, call (888) 256-3650

    If you have paid your premium and need to access medical care or prescriptions, but have not yet received your ID card, you can obtain the services you need. Blue Shield will work with you to ensure that your medical care or prescriptions are covered appropriately.

    How can I check on the status of my application?

    If you have not yet received a payment request from us and enrolled on-exchange, call Covered California’s enrollment hotline at (855) 857-0445 to make sure your application is not pending with them and that it was sent to us. If Covered California confirms your application was sent to Blue Shield, you can call (855) 836-9705.

    If you enrolled off-exchange through Blue Shield directly, you can call (888) 256-3650 with questions regarding the status of your application.

    How can I change my Affordable Care Act (ACA) plan?

    If you would like to change your plan, please call (855) 836-9705 if you are subsidy eligible. Otherwise, please call (800) 660-3007 to enroll in a new off-exchange plan. If you are changing plans, please pay your first month’s premium, and we will make the necessary adjustments once this change takes effect to ensure continuity of coverage. Additionally, please allow 10 business days for your new plan to take effect.

    The automatic payment for my plan has not been drafted. Has my plan been cancelled?

    If you signed up for automatic payment in January, your plan will not be cancelled for non-payment, and your claims will be paid according to your benefits, even if your payment has not been drafted yet.
