The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued new requirements outlining the payment of new and renewal commissions for Medicare Advantage plans. The new rules may impact your ability to receive new and renewal commissions.
The Annual Election Period (AEP) is from October 15 through December 7. Remember that in order to sell or receive compensation for the sale of Blue Shield MA-PD and/or PDP products, you must be individually appointed or endorsed by an agency as well as being AHIP and Blue Shield product certified.
CMS guidelines require that all independent agents who contact Medicare beneficiaries about MA-PD and PDP products be trained and tested on Medicare compliance, specific health plan benefits and procedures, and federal marketing requirements. Remember, if you were certified last year, you must renew your certification again this year. As always, once you pass both AHIP's and Blue Shield's training you'll be ready to sell.

Completed MA-PD and PDP applications must be submitted to Blue Shield within 24 hours of receipt from your client.**
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) require carriers to have completed MA-PD and PDP applications processed and submitted to them within seven calendar days of receipt from the broker.

Submit your MA-PD applications online to quickly enroll your clients
Our online MA-PD application shortens mailing times, reduces paperwork, and lets you submit your clients' applications to us in an instant.
The online application will be pre-populated with an online application ID number, your name, and your producer number. When the application is completed by your client, you or your client can then submit it electronically, or print it out and mail it to us.

**Blue Shield reserves the right to reduce initial and renewal year commissions up to 50% on applications that are not submitted to Blue Shield, within one calendar day of the agent’s signature date. Blue Shield also reserves the right to pay no initial or renewal year commissions on applications submitted to Blue Shield over seven calendar days after the agent's signature date.
