Brought to you by Blue Shield of California, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, CVS Pharmacy®, and the community and provider partners listed below.

We’re pleased to offer members in select areas access to drive-thru flu clinics. If you are eligible to get the flu shot at one of these locations, you should have received an email or postcard from us.

These flu clinics offer a safe, convenient way to get your flu shot.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to get a flu shot. The healthcare system is already stretched. Serious problems related to flu can lead to hospitalization. Getting the flu shot not only protects yourself, it protects your community, too.

FAQs about the drive-thru flu clinics

1. Are these flu clinics open to everyone?

No. These drive-thru flu clinics are only available to Blue Shield of California and Blue Shield Promise Health Plan members. We’ve only notified members eligible for flu shots at these locations. Appointments are limited. We suggest you book your appointment early.

2. Do I make one online appointment for my whole family/per car? Or one per person?

Each person needs their own appointment online. For example, if you have five family members with Blue Shield coverage, each person will need their own appointment.

All appointment times should be picked together, however if the same time is not available, pick the next closest. You can all come to the first scheduled appointment for your group and have your shots together. For example, if mom has an 8 a.m. appointment, but kids have appointments at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., the family can come together at 8 a.m. and all get their flu shots at that same time.

3. Do I need to make an online appointment to be seen?

Yes. No walk-ins/drive-ups without an appointment will be allowed.

4. Is there a cost?

If you have a Blue Shield or Blue Shield Promise medical plan, your flu shot is covered as a preventive care immunization. Most plans, including Medicare, Cal MediConnect, and Medi-Cal plans, offer preventive care at no cost. Some plans that are grandfathered plans may have out-of-pocket costs for the shot and may only cover a portion of the cost from an in-network location. Please check your Evidence of Coverage for details.

5. What should I do if I can’t get an appointment or need assistance with scheduling?

You can call (800) 403-1116 (TTY: 711) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a customer service representative will assist you.

We also have other options available for you to get a flu shot.

6. What should I expect at this drive-thru clinic?

  • Arrive as close as possible to your scheduled time.
  • Wear a shirt that can expose your upper arm.
  • Wear a mask or cloth face covering.
  • When you arrive for your flu shot, CVS staff will check you in. You will need to provide your Blue Shield or Blue Shield Promise member ID card and a photo ID.
  • After you check in, you will be instructed to drive up to a pharmacist. They will screen you for COVID-19 and then administer the flu shot.
  • The pharmacist might ask you to exit your car and sit in a designated area while they give the vaccine.
  • Once you've been given the flu shot, you will need to remain in the parking spot for 15 minutes. The pharmacist will then monitor for vaccine side effects.

7. What should I bring with me?

Bring a photo ID and a copy of your Blue Shield member ID card. And please bring some patience! We’ll do our best to keep wait times short. But it’s important that we keep everyone as safe as possible.

8. If I need a special flu vaccine like high-dose or egg-free flu shots, can I get one at the drive-thru clinic?

Available vaccines will vary by location. For these drive-thru flu clinics, high-dose shots will be available. However, egg-free flu shots are not available.

Please find another location if you need the egg-free flu shot. We recommend that you call the location ahead of time to confirm they have the vaccine that you need.
