Hector Flores, M.D., is a long-time advocate for the medically underserved. He co-founded and currently serves as the medical director of the Family Care Specialists Medical Group in East Los Angeles. In addition, he is the chairman of White Medical Center’s (WMMC) Department of Family Medicine.
Flores also serves as co-director of the WMMC’s Family Medicine Residency Program, which he established with five other Latino family physicians. The program provides young physicians with the training and skills to become clinicians in shortage-area practices, to provide culturally responsive health services and to achieve leadership positions in the medical community.
Flores served on the Clinton Health Care Task Force and the California Task Force on Culturally and Linguistically Competent Physicians and Dentists. He was also a member of the UC Medical Student Diversity Task Force.
Flores received a bachelor’s degree in History from Stanford University and a doctor of medicine degree from the UC Davis School of Medicine. He was a founding member of the California Latino Medical Association and is a member of the Insure the Uninsured Program’s (ITUP) advisory board as well as the Integrated Healthcare Association Board of Directors.
