We’re glad you’ve chosen Blue Shield to provide you with quality healthcare coverage, and we’re excited to share with you all the advantages of your membership.
1. Watch for your bill to arrive
If you have not yet provided full payment for your first month of coverage, you will receive an email or paper bill from us with details on how to complete your payment. You will have the option to pay online, over the phone, or by check through the mail. Once we receive and process your full payment, your application will be complete and we can assign you an effective date for coverage. If you currently have coverage, please continue paying for it until your new coverage begins.
2. Keep a look out for your new member ID card
Before your first day of coverage, you will receive your member ID card, more details about your Blue Shield benefits, and instructions on how to register online and get more information specific to your benefits and coverage.
3. Choose your doctor now
In the meantime, there’s no time like now to choose your doctor. It’s important that you choose a doctor in our Exclusive PPO Network to ensure that you’ll pay the lowest out-of-pocket costs for your care. The Exclusive PPO Network includes fewer providers than Blue Shield’s Full PPO Network to help keep your costs lower. Use our Find a Provider tool to find your Exclusive PPO Network doctor now.
Please note that while members have the flexibility to use non-participating providers, doing so means costs will be much higher (except in an emergency). Some services are not covered at all if they are provided by a non-participating provider, which means members are responsible for the balance of the provider’s bill not covered by Blue Shield.
