Note: the contract between Blue Shield Promise and DispatchHealth will be terminated for all service areas, including all Blue Shield of California (Blue Shield) and Blue Shield Promise members effective January 4, 2026. DispatchHealth
DispatchHealth® is available to eligible Blue Shield Promise members with serious health concerns to provide same-day, high acuity medical care in the comfort of their home, reducing unnecessary ambulance trips and costly visits to the emergency room. In addition, DispatchHealth provides proactive post-acute visits for members transitioning from hospital to home, also known as “bridge care.”
How can DispatchHealth help?
- Provides “right-sized” care in the home, reserving the emergency room for patients with time-sensitive and life-threatening conditions
- Extends care after hours, including weekends and holidays, easing capacity constraints for provider practices
- Expands insight into social determinants of health that impact patient care plans
- Reduces unnecessary hospital admissions and readmissions
- Reduces overall health care costs
How to get started
DispatchHealth services are available to eligible Blue Shield Promise members in certain ZIP code areas within Los Angeles and San Diego counties (see important notice section above for service area termination timelines).
DispatachHealth acute care services can be initiated by a healthcare provider, a case manager, or a health plan member.
While Blue Shield continues to evaluate the effectiveness of this program, we will cover the overall cost of using DispatchHealth for eligible commercial plan members and Medi-Cal members. Eligible commercial plan members will be responsible, however, for primary care office copayments for DispatachHealth services.
For information on how to initiate care for your patients, please contact your Blue Shield or Blue Shield Promise Provider Relations Representative..
