Metal Levels
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all health plans offered in the small business market for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2014, are required to provide four standardized levels of coverage. These are also referred to as metal levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Choice of PPO and HMO plans These plans offer generous coverage with low out-of-pocket costs. Choice of Network 1 (Access+) and Network 2 (Local Access+). Blue Shield pays approximately 80% of covered medical expenses. |
Silver |
Choice of PPO, HSA-HDHP*, and HMO plans These plans are designed for those concerned about affordability but want to be prepared for an unforeseen illness or emergency. Blue Shield pays approximately 70% of covered medical expenses. |
Bronze |
Choice of PPO and HSA-HDHP plans With the lowest rates, high deductibles, and consistent out-of-pocket costs, these plans are designed for those who want affordable coverage and don't expect to use a lot of services. This plan uses the Select (Narrow) PPO Network. Blue Shield pays approximately 60% of covered medical expenses. |
