We created Trio HMO with three goals in mind: to simplify the healthcare experience, improve patient health and lower costs.
It’s the only plan that offers the more affordable price of an HMO with access to local doctors and hospitals in Blue Shield’s quality Trio ACO HMO Network. Members create their own community of care by choosing from local network of doctors, hospitals and pharmacies that includes all specialties and levels of care.
Trio HMO is designed for cost-conscious consumer that are unwilling to compromise on the quality of care they receive. Because your clients will get access to a local network of doctors and hospitals, you’ll want to make sure that they are comfortable with the providers that are in their area.

Affordability. We take the unnecessary costs out of the healthcare system and share important information about your care with your doctors to improve patient health and deliver a more personal, efficient experience. When medical costs go down, plan premiums stay lower. For example, Silver 70 Trio HMO will likely be less expensive than our Silver 70 PPO rates in regions 3, 12, 15, and 17. Theses regions in particular allow you to offer both prospects and current PPO clients a lower price option and access to a quality Trio ACO HMO network.
Quality network. The Trio ACO HMO network has your clients’ best outcome in mind. And your clients could pay less to get access to some of the top doctors and hospitals in the state.
Access to Shield Concierge. It’s a single point of contact so your clients can get any healthcare issue resolved faster and easier than ever. Whether they need help finding doctors, paying a bill, transferring medical records, or just want to talk to a registered nurse, pharmacist, health coach or social worker, they get personal attention.
Primary care physician matching. Your clients are matched with a primary care physician (PCP) who helps coordinate their care and refer them to specialists.

Trio HMO launched on January 1, 2015 in 16 counties. Today, Trio HMO is available in 24 counties. We continue to see significant growth with the addition of Pomona Valley Medical Group for 2019. This adds 175 primary care physicians and 193 specialists to the network in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

This one-and-a-half-minute video demo shows you how to use the tool to match the Trio service area to your client's employee census.
