January 2012 Update
As you know, in 2012 we offered you a new way to grow and retain your book of business. Simply Shield – our redesigned small group portfolio &ndas; offering your clients a simple approach to healthcare coverage with PPO, HSA-compatible high-deductible health plan (HDHP), and HMO plan options. Your clients have a choice of two plan packages in the Simply Shield portfolio – SimpleSelect and SimpleSync.

To make way for our Simply Shield portfolio, we streamlined our plan offerings by withdrawing many of our plans from the previous portfolio.
Base PPO* plans
Base PPO plans offer your clients a simple and affordable coverage solution without sacrificing the benefits they want. 
Shield Spectrum PPOSM plans
These plans provide direct access to the physicians and specialists in our preferred provider network, plus the option to go out of network.
Access+ HMO® plans 
Our Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans provide low, fixed copayments for our widest range of benefits, including preventive care, inpatient and outpatient hospital services and emergency care.
Local Access+ HMO® Plan 
We extended the HMO family of plans with eight Local Access+ HMO Plans. These plans provide coverage through a select physician network in certain California countieswhile still offering comprehensive employee coverage.
Added Advantage POS Plan
Our Point of Service (POS) Plan delivers the convenience and predictable costs of our HMO, and access to our extensive PPO provider network.
Active Choice® plans
Our Active Choice* Plans, underwritten by Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company, are ideal for employers who need to reduce their healthcare costs, but still want to provide their employees with comprehensive benefits.
Shield SavingsSM plans
Our Shield Savings plans are high-deductible health plans and are compatible with tax-advantaged Health Savings Accounts (HSA). The plans offer affordable monthly dues, a wide range of benefits subject to the deductible and access to our broad PPO network.

Access Baja® HMO plans
These plans are specially designed for employees of California businesses seeking healthcare coverage in Baja California, Mexico.
Optional Benefits
Chiropractic, acupuncture, infertility and substance abuse benefits improve our basic health plans.

Employees and all enrolled dependents must live or work in the Local Access+ HMO "service area," which includes designated counties: portions of Contra Costa, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Mateo, Sacramento, Kern, and Ventura counties, as well as in all of Marin, Orange, San Luis Obispo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Sonoma, Stanislaus, San Francisco and Yolo counties as described in the Benefit Summary Guide (A16609).
2. If you are an employer located in certain California counties whose eligible employees live or work in the Local Access+ HMO service area, you have the option of choosing any of the Access+ HMO plans or any of the Local Access+ HMO plans, but not both. Please review the Benefit Summary Guide (A16609) for detailed information regarding the Local Access+ HMO service area.
