Your preventive and non-emergency care is covered when you go to a preferred provider. A preferred provider is a doctor, hospital or other medical professional in the Blue Shield network. These providers are under contract with us to provide health services and have agreed to accept the allowed amount as payment in full -- which usually results in cost savings to you.
Please note:
- Non-emergency services with a non-preferred provider usually entails higher copayments and higher out-of-pocket expenses.
A non-preferred provider is a doctor, hospital or other medical professional that is not a designated member in the Blue Shield network.
