Who is eligible?

All California residents age 65 and older who are enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B at the time of application.

Plan G Extra includes all the benefits of Plan G, plus these additional benefits:

  • Vision benefits, including coverage for the cost of eye exams, frames, and eyeglass or contact lenses provided by Vision Service Plan (VSP) that are not traditionally covered by Original Medicare.
  • Hearing aid benefits, including a hearing aid exam and Silver or Gold level hearing aids from EPIC Hearing Healthcare.
  • Physician consultation benefits, available 24/7 by phone or video via computer or mobile app.
  • Quarterly allowance for over-the-counter (OTC) items, providing a twice-use-per-quarter allowance for eligible OTC products such as cold and allergy medicines, first-aid supplies, pain relievers, and more. See your Summary of Benefits for details.

Plan G Inspire3 is closed to new enrollments beginning April 1, 2024. For more information, refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.

Plan F Extra2 includes all of the benefits of standard Plan F, plus these additional benefits:

  • Hearing aid benefits, including a hearing aid exam, and Silver or Gold level hearing aids from EPIC Hearing Healthcare.
  • Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), an emergency alert monitoring system that provides access to help 24/7, at the push of a button.
  • Vision Benefits, including coverage for the cost of eye exams, frames, and eyeglass or contact lenses provided by Vision Service Plan (VSP) that are not traditionally covered by Original Medicare.

 

EPIC Hearing Healthcare is an independent entity that administers services on behalf of Blue Shield of California.

Blue Shield’s vision benefits are administered by Vision Service Plan (VSP). VSP is a vision care services plan licensed by the California Department of Managed Health Care, which contracts with Blue Shield to administer delivery of eyewear and eye exams covered under this vision benefit. VSP also contracts with Blue Shield to serve as a claims administrator for the processing of claims for covered services received from VSP participating and non-participating Providers. Underwritten by Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company.

Plan F Extra is only available to applicants who attained age 65 before January 1, 2020, or first became eligible for Medicare benefits due to disability before January 1, 2020.

More ways for your clients to save

Welcome to Medicare Rate Savings¹

Do you have clients who are new to Medicare? Then we want to welcome them! Your clients can save $25 each month for the first 12 months on their Medicare Supplement plan rates if they are new to Medicare Part B.

To qualify, your client must be age 65 or older and Blue Shield must receive the application within six (6) months of the date your client first enrolled for benefits under Medicare Part B. Savings will be effective for the first twelve (12) months.

The Welcome to Medicare Rate Savings program is not available for Plan N or any closed plans.
 

AutoPay¹

Your clients can save $3 per month by paying their monthly premiums through automatic checking or savings account debits. If your clients haven't signed up yet, now is the time to tell them how they can save.
 

Member dental plan savings¹

Your clients can save $3 each month for the first six months on their dental plan rates if they enroll in a dental plan at the same time they enroll in any Blue Shield Medicare Supplement plan.
 

Household Savings Program

If your client and another member of the household are age 65 or older, share the same residence, and mailing and billing address, and are accepted in the same benefit plan type, they are eligible for a 7% monthly savings on their combined dues if coverage is issued under one plan¹.

Please note: Household Savings Program does not apply to High Deductible Plan F, Plan K, or tobacco users. If your clients are currently enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan, they may transfer to a plan of equal or lesser value without going through underwriting during their open enrollment period. However, if they have the Household Savings Program and change to benefit plans that are different from each other, they will no longer be eligible for the 7% savings.

Competitive Medicare Supplement Plan commissions
