The Prenatal Program also helps moms-to-be who need extra support because of various factors that can affect pregnancy, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or a history of preterm labor.

A dedicated maternity nurse will create a care plan for you and call you throughout your pregnancy to provide personalized coaching. Your nurse can also request that a medical director regularly review your case.

This extra help available to you can go a long way toward helping you have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Maternal mental health

We understand that pregnancy is a big change in your life. Our Maternal Mental Health Services offer you an additional layer of support before, during, and after pregnancy.

Combining our prenatal and behavioral health services, we offer you access to behavioral health specialists who can offer help and guidance on:

  • Stress management
  • Coping mechanisms
  • Managing depression
  • Anxiety
  • Other behavioral health conditions

You can access a behavioral health specialist by speaking with your primary care physician, obstetrician, or gynecologist.

You can also call the mental health customer service phone number on the back of your Blue Shield member ID card.

Health Tips

Asthma is a treatable, reversible condition that affects more than 25 million people in the United States. Appropriate medication management for patients with asthma reduces the need for rescue medication—as well as ER visits and missed days of work or school. Talk to your doctor about an asthma action plan and take all your prescribed asthma medications.
